Narrator Gideon Emery is the perfect voice for this story of the British class system in the nineteenth century. Angelique Latham's father dies, and his entire estate of Belgrave Castle is entailed to Angelique's half-brother. Angelique, a bright and spirited duchess, is expelled from the estate to become a nanny to several children of a self-indulgent mother and absentee father. Emery's voices for the numerous characters move fluidly from Cockney to the posh accents of the aristocracy. His female voices are not as dramatic as his male voices, which suggest authoritative men. Steel has written yet another fun listen that spins a story of wealth, misfortune, and independence. E.B. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine
