#1 bestselling author Patricia Cornwell returns to the chilling world of gutsy medical examiner Kay Scarpetta in this suspense classic.
An unidentified nude female sits propped against a fountain in Central Park. There are no signs of struggle. When Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her colleagues Benton Wesley and Pete Marino arrive on the scene, they instantly recognize the signature of serial killer Temple Brooks Gault. Scarpetta, on assignment with the FBI, visits the New York City morgue on Christmas morning, where she must use her forensic expertise to give a name to the nameless—a difficult task. But as she sorts through conflicting forensic clues, Gault claims his next victim. He has infiltrated the FBI's top secret artificial-intelligence system developed by Scarpetta's niece, and sends taunting messages as his butchery continues, moving terrifyingly closer to Scarpetta herself.

Cornwell is at the top of her form in this riveting novel as Dr. Kay Scarpetta continues the search for serial killer Temple Gault. This tale takes the listener through the bowels of New York City's subway system as Scarpetta and Gault play their deadly cat-and-mouse game. Accomplished actress Blair Brown turns in a masterful performance as Scarpetta. As the tension builds in this careful abridgment, Brown's voice skillfully reflects the frustration and fear that grip the narrator. Rather than try to create voices for the male characters, Brown wisely lets their emotions speak for them. Mystery presentations don't get any better than this. P.B.J. Another Christmas Eve is disrupted for Medical Examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta when she's called to the murder scene of an unidentified female whose naked body is found in New York's Central Park. It soon becomes apparent that the murderer may be as focused on the forensic specialist as she is on him and that the violent chain of events may lead to Scarpetta herself becoming his ultimate victim. This compelling story is a perfect match for C.J. Critt, whose unpretentious delivery captures the heart and personality of Scarpetta as she struggles to match wits with her nemesis, an evil serial killer who simply must be stopped. F.J.F.
